JEE Main vs JEE Advanced: What Actually Differs
Same syllabus, two completely different exams. The gap is not in what you know — it is in how the questions are built and what each paper rewards.
Physical, Organic and Inorganic reward completely different study methods. Treating Chemistry as one subject is why it stays everyone's inconsistent paper.
Ask a student how Chemistry is going and you rarely get a clear answer. That vagueness is the problem: they are averaging three genuinely different subjects into one impression, and the average hides which part is actually broken.

A student can be strong in one and weak in another and never notice, because their overall Chemistry mark looks middling either way.
There are far too many named reactions to hold individually. Students who try end up with a long list they cannot apply to anything slightly unfamiliar.
What works is the layer underneath: which sites are electron-rich, which are electron-poor, what leaves easily, what stabilises a charge. Once that is secure, most reactions become predictable rather than remembered. The named reactions then act as labels for things you can already work out.
Inorganic gets left until the end because it feels like memorisation, and memorisation feels unrewarding. But it is the most reliably scoring section in the paper — the questions rarely surprise you.
Treat it the way you would treat NEET Biology: read for understanding once, extract the facts, then practise retrieval on a spaced cycle. Group trends, exceptions and the reasoning behind them, rather than isolated facts.
Most lost Physical marks are not conceptual. They are unit conversions, dropped factors, and misread significant figures. Keep a log for a month and the pattern will be embarrassingly consistent — and fixable in a fortnight once you can see it.
Roughly evenly, but reviewed monthly rather than set once. The right split changes as your weaknesses move. A student who never re-checks ends up spending most time on the branch they already enjoy.
The balance shifts year to year, and chasing that is a distraction. All three carry enough that a weak one is visible in your score.
For Inorganic it is close to sufficient. For Physical and Organic you need problem practice well beyond it.
Classic sign of following the reasoning rather than owning it. Work problems without notes, get stuck, then look. Being stuck is the part that teaches.
