By this stage the question is not which is better. It is which fits the entrance exam you are actually preparing for.
Choosing a Stream After Class 10: A Practical Guide
The decision is made under time pressure, on incomplete information, at fifteen. Here is how to make it less of a guess.
Few decisions in Indian schooling are made with as little information as this one, in as little time, at as young an age. It cannot be made perfectly. It can be made better than it usually is.
Start by removing the false framing
Science is not "the clever stream". Commerce is not "the easy option". Arts is not a fallback. These beliefs are widespread in Nashik as everywhere, and they cause students to choose a stream they will not enjoy in order to avoid a label.
A student who takes Science to satisfy expectation, then struggles through two years, ends up further behind than one who chose well.
Questions worth asking
- Which Class 9 and 10 subjects did they engage with when nobody was making them?
- Do they prefer problems with one right answer, or questions with arguments on both sides?
- How comfortable are they with Mathematics — not the marks, the comfort?
- What do they think each stream leads to? Check the accuracy; it is often wrong.
What each stream actually asks

The PCM or PCB question
Only relevant if Science is right. Some students take both Mathematics and Biology to postpone the decision — workable, but it is a heavy Class 11 and it should be a deliberate choice rather than avoidance.
If it turns out wrong
Changing in the first term of Class 11 is disruptive and recoverable. Changing later is genuinely hard. So the first term is worth watching closely, and a student saying it is not working deserves a serious conversation rather than encouragement to persist.

Does Science keep more options open?
Somewhat, and it is over-stated. It keeps engineering and medicine open. Commerce and Arts students reach law, civil services, finance and design perfectly well. "Keeping options open" is often how a student ends up in a stream nobody chose.
Should we use an aptitude test?
They can be a useful conversation starter. Treat the output as one input among several, not a verdict.
My child does not know what they want.
Normal at fifteen. Choose on what they engage with now rather than on a career they cannot yet picture.
