NEET or JEE: How to Decide, and What Happens If You Attempt Both
The choice is usually framed as doctor or engineer. A more useful question is which kind of thinking you actually enjoy for two years.
Most students are asked to choose between medicine and engineering at fifteen, on the basis of very little information about either. Some of the framing is unavoidable. Some of it can be improved.
What the two exams actually ask of you

A student who enjoys sitting with a hard problem for twenty minutes and a student who enjoys mastering a large body of material are different people. Both are capable; they will find different exams pleasant.
The honest questions
- Which do you reach for first when both are on the desk?
- In Class 10 Science, did the Biology chapters feel like relief or like a chore?
- Do you like problems with one clean answer, or material you can master completely?
- Setting careers aside — which would you rather do for two years?
That last question predicts outcomes better than most people expect, because two years is long enough that enjoyment becomes a real input.
Can you prepare for both?
In principle yes; in practice it is hard. Physics and Chemistry overlap, but Biology and Mathematics do not overlap at all — so you are carrying a fourth subject at full depth. Students who split usually end up mid-table in both.
It is more defensible in Class 11, as a way of deciding. By the second half of Class 11 it is worth committing.
The combination that does work
JEE plus MHT-CET, or NEET plus MHT-CET. The subject base is shared and only exam technique differs, so the extra load is small. That is a genuine second chance rather than a split effort.
What if the choice turns out wrong?
Switching in Class 11 is recoverable. In Class 12 it is difficult but not impossible, particularly toward MHT-CET. The cost of switching is almost always lower than the cost of two more years spent on the wrong exam.

Which has better prospects?
Both lead to good outcomes and both are competitive. Choosing on prospects rather than fit tends to produce a student who performs below their ability.

Worth having the conversation early and explicitly, with a teacher present if that helps. It gets harder to raise the longer it waits.
When must we decide?
Ideally before Class 11 begins, and certainly by the end of the first term.
